What do you do when you're in somebody else's kitchen?

When you're in somebody else's kitchen do you ever...

open the cupboards?
sneakily open the cupboards when they're not looking?
peek in the fridge?
spy cookery books that you don't have and pick them up and start reading them?

I'm guilty of the last one and I very much want to look in other people's cupboards but the way I was dragged up stops me.

I would never dream of doing other things except peek in the cookbooks as well! ;D

This totally depends on whether I would be discovered snooping. If I was free to roam, I'd do every last one of them. If they're around, I wait till they open their cupboards/fridge and try to take in as much information as possible.

I'm very nosy!

I sneak a peak if I can... but I'd be soooo embarrassed if caught. The cookbooks, though are fair game.

Oh, one must be polite don't you think ;) Is any body watching?

The way you were dragged up? I love it!

I am always more curious as to how people arrange their kitchens. If you are cooking with them this is easily discovered. But I look at their cookbooks too, and sneak peaks at the junk pile by the phone that everyone has.

I will nosy through the cookbooks, that seems acceptable. As for the cupboards and fridge, I generally peer discreetly over the owner's shoulder when they open them. I have been known to ask a random question about something I've spotted. It keeps the door open longer and I can take in a few more things. I feel all embarrassed now!!!

If you want to be a pantry voyeur, come and peek in Other People's Pantries every Saturday!

I ask (to invade pantry and fridge) first, people mostly say yes (puzzled but willing) ;)

Always and never. :-) I was dragged up the right way as well. Hey, I gave you something over at my blog if you care to take a peek! I do love looking at other people's cookbooks though, if invited.

Hi Asha, Katiecakes, Katie, Tanna, Cheryl, KJ, Lydia, Joey and Marie -

Thank you for your comments. I think even if people were out I still wouldn't look in their cupboards. I do peek over their shoulders though.

Cheryl, you're so right about the pile next to the phone but we seem to have those piles all over the place!!

Lydia, I always look at The Perfect Pantry to take a peek in other people's pantries - I love it.

Thanks again.

There's worse than that. I was in my kitchen at Christmas, happily cooking. Then Aidan wandered in, picked up a knife and stick blender, made a couple of dishes and wandered out again without saying anything!

Honestly the yoot of today! I might have done the same thing, only I'd have spoken, just because words come out of my mouth a lot!

Hope 2009 is going well for you so far Mike. x
