I'm going to be embracing my inner sloth for a few days...

...and in hindsight (such a wonderful thing) I maybe should have done it a bit earlier.

This is the inside of the moreish muffins....

'The back' is playing up a tad following my stupidity in bending down to pick something up. I had an x-ray on Monday which showed the vertebrae are too close together, definitely indicating a prolapsed disc. I was told that if my back hadn't settled down by the time I had an MRI then they would have to remove the disc. The MRI is tomorrow and at the moment I'm not able to put my right foot down for longer than a few seconds, despite taking enough meds to make the most hardened crack addict feel good it just isn't touching it. I realise I've been pretty stupid cooking and baking cakes, albeit in a very unnatural way, mostly sitting down and barking orders like some Sergeant Major to be passed this or that ingredient - but still... Anyway hopefully between now and tomorrow afternoon my back is going to play ball. Having had a caesarean where the anaesthetic failed and they cut my babies back when they cut into me, I'm not overly confident of the surgery option. Especially when it involves going anywhere near ones central nervous system.

I'm in definite danger of starting to blather on so I'll stop now. Hopefully see you soon. I mean obviously I'll be back soon, I mean back soon with some fabulous food that I've cooked, that's what I meant.

Oh and p.s. a personal note - to my fantastic husband and beautiful boys - I LOVE YOU, to the moon and back, around the earth a few billion times and you're still not even close to how much I love you. Thank you for putting up with me and I promise the moment this back is right - I'm going to work on my core strength, core stability, call it whatever you want , but I'm going to work on it, so WE don't have to go through this again....

Amanda this is not sloth. Taking care of yourself when your a mom takes more than non-moms can calculate. It is putting down all our normal responsibilities and not taking up new ones. It goes totally against our grain. Take care of you and let others take care of you. Even little ones feel good when they can take care of mom.

Whew. Your C-section story made me squirm a little. That may be my only option if this baby stays breech...
Yikes!

there's nothing wrong with behaving like a sloth sometimes, especially in your situation!

I think you and your 3 boys race each other round the world and back, I bet they love to take care of you if you let them...and that might the hardest part for a mum.

Please take some rest, it will pay back in the long run (but you knew that already right?)
Take care of yourself!

Here's hoping they can do a micro-discectomy instead of the whole shebang. My mom had the micro & it worked quite well - my little brother had it & it didn't work & they had to remove the disc. I went the chiropractic route & it still comes back to bite me every now and again (as now, living on codeine - thankfully cheap & over the counter here in the UK).

Good luck!

Thanks so much for your comments. The boys and hubs have been really amazing, they always are but I know that they're being extra specially good just for me. I'm feeling nervous and apprehensive about tomorrow but that's normal I guess. I don't want the surgery but I do realise that it might be for the best in the long run. I don't know... Sleep is evading me but I need it so that I can think straight and make an informed decision.

Tanna and Karen, you're right they do love to take care of me, it's hard to let them though. It just feels wrong, I should be taking care of them.

Aimee, we talked by e-mail ;)

Deborah, thanks, it will all be okay.

Asha, we argue about who loves who the most. We end up having to agree that we all love each other the same amount..

Slush, thanks Sweetie, it'll be fine, I can feel it in my water!

a.grace, thank you, under normal circumstances I'd like nothing more than embracing my inner sloth.. ;)

David, Sorry you suffer too. Codeine is such a bung up! Hope you eat lots of prunes to make up for it...

Thanks again, speak soon.

((((Amanda))))))All the best hun and hope it gets better soon for you. I don't think you are being sloth either. All the best to the boys and hubby too. Just look after yourself!

Hah! Thank you for that - it's morning here in the UK, and I was just asking myself what the heck was going on. Explains it, sadly.

I don't blame you for not wanting the surgery, particularly if there were other options.

Mine's congenital (so I really can blame my mom), but I'm left with the same options: endure the pain, or operate.

Poor Amanda

This sounds so painful and debilitating. I do hope that it is sorted and that you are feeling better soon.

Sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. I know how painful backs can be (I speak from first hand experience)although mine wasn't as painful as yours sounds. It's so debilitating isn't it.

Amanda sweetie!! Look after yourself and being such a great mum it's no surprise you get all the love and affection and CARE back. Hugs to you!

Thank you for your well wishes. I will respond individually in a day or two. Need to speak with consultant so still don't know which route I'm taking. Funnily enough I'm feeling rather marvellous this evening but I think that could be all the drugs I had to take to allow me to lie flat for the MRI scan. I keep getting the giggles and have the urge to sing!

Speak soon

Oh Amanda - really best wishes to you. Horribly health and surgery things always make me feel a bit squeamish so you do have my sympathies. Hang in there and hope whichever way things swing you'll get a bit of peace.

Hope the MRI went well Amanda - I'm sure with the aid and love of the boys you will be sorted before you know it.

Good luck Amanda! I pulled a muscle in my back a few days ago, and while I know it is nothing like what you have been experiencing, it is bad enough that I feel for you!
