Daring Bakers Bostini Cream Pie October '07 Challenge

Now the challenge I loved, however not loving that I can't get all the pictures to load. It has let me load two more. Slow, steady and sure, all good qualities in a man, I'm sure. Will try and sort it out but for now...
The KitchenAid made swift work of whipping the egg whites.

The cake batter had a wonderful smell.

I was nervous of mixing the batter with the whisked egg whites but it seemed to come together easily. I added one spoonful at a time.

Hmmm, yes I thought silicone wasn't supposed to stick. This was after oiling as I know it sticks without oil. Now I know it sticks either way.

Me: "DON'T EAT THE ROUND ONES!!" Little and Small "Yummy, this cake is yummmmmmmy!"

I scaled the recipe down to a third (roughly) and this still gave us 4 wine glasses full and plenty of left over cake to be snaffled (see above). If you were to see my workings out - I'd be ashamed. How am I supposed to help my children with maths homework when the time comes?! If there is anybody out there who is really good at maths and good at scaling down recipes please let me know so I know who to call on next time...

In brief, we love orange, we love cake, we love custard and we love chocolate so what's not to love about the Bostini Cream Pie! A very big thank you to Mary at Alpineberry for a great challenge this month. Click here for Mary's post and the recipe. I will try and load more pics. In the meantime check out the Daring Bakers blogroll to see what everybody else did.

That's a tease of a lead in if ever there was one. Love the little hands!

Looking forward to it. Pie does sound tasty right now. Lol I love the pict of your boys getting into it.

My math skills were definitely lacking and I only divided the recipe in half! I did a lot of 'eyeball' measurements.

Well done!

ha! And did they stay away from the round ones? Too cute!

Looks like it all went really well for you, I'm happy =)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to say DON'T EAT THE... !

I'm having problems with my pictures today. I can see them but no one else can!

Great pics, especially the first one =) My little hands were very keen of the off cuts too! =)

I agree -- it drives me nuts when the photos don't load on my site. Just look at those cute little hands *sigh* I love the dessert in the glass. I need to try that.

You just gotta love the dimple hands..so sweet, and looking good as well!

Awww, love the little hands. Love them! My brood loved the cake too. Eh on the other components. A finicky bunch we must be.

Bless those wee little ones and their inverted dimples on their greedy hands! I hope you used this dessert as an entry into the New England eating experience. Boston baked beans, next on the list?

I must admit that some of my "measuring" was along the lines of Brilynn's method! It looks like the Bostinis must have turned out perfectly though, because they certainly are being enjoyed by the little helpers! :-)

Jusrt lovely! :)

No problem seeing pictures here!
And that is why I don't like the silicon bakeware that I have.
Glad to see the kids enjoying the extras!

It's good to see Little and Small "helping" mummy out with the challenge. ;-) I have trouble scaling things down, so I rely on Quikong to do the maths for me. sad but true.

Ohh, yum! You know, I have never made Boston Cream Pie, but my MIL makes a great version of it, so I request it every once in a while. I love how it is in a glass. Really well done!

Amanda looks like great fun with the helpers in the kitchen as usual! Glad you joined us again for some Daring Baker fun!!

Your little ones grabbing at the cake bits are too adorable for words! Looks like we encountered the same difficulties...but all turned out well in the end! :)

Wish I could help you with the math but I'm in the same boat!

Looks like the boys really enjoyed the cake scraps! (SO did I for that matter!) I really enjoyed this challenge, it being my first. I am impressed that you could scale the recipe down as much as you did and still have it come out as good as yours did! Clearly I could use some lessons from you! Well done Amanda!

The hands are just too cute! Great work. Wish I'd had some little ones to eat up my cake scraps so they didn't end up on my hips!

Huh! I'm with you in that I really really thought silicone wasn't supposed to stick! Have you tried oiling & flouring, like with "Baker's Joy" stuff?

Wonderful job on the cake, and on the scaling down. I won't claim to be good at scaling down ... but I'll share my scale-down with you next time, if you'd like, provided I get mine done more than a day in advance. :)

Beautiful! But how dare you make something so delicious and not send any in a waterproof jiffy bag to me?! I could eat this in any state.

Cheers

You did a beautiful job. I divided the recipe into fourths. I ended up needing to change measurements into tablespoons and teaspoons for things.

Your Bostinis look great, and the kids looked like they had a fantastic time with the leftover cake! And I agree, cutting some of the measurements was not an easy task.

I think the scraps are the best of any dessert! :)

Little & Small are wise beyond their years.

I as your "little foodies" have good taste. I would want the round ones too!

Great job! Isn't it funny how it's always hard to keep the separate parts from being eaten up! Your bostinis turned out lovely.

Looks good. I should probably have done a third rather than a half. I have been eating a lot of bostini cream pies...

I love how your kids are so much involved in the baking . Great job and good looking result!

Hi Amanda I have just awarded you the Halloween Sweet Treat Award over on my blog. This looks really yummy!!!!

I used to make a version of Boston Cream Pie Cake from a newspaper article moons ago (it could well have been a Nigella recipe) which although hideously involved, it was absolutely heavenly.

aw so cute to see your little helpers :) makes everything so much more fun.

Lovely! I too found myself snacking on the round cut out pieces of cake...oops! Good thing there was enough to feed an army.

Hooray for little hands! Your final dish looks wonderful, and silicone problems aside, I'm glad it worked out so well for you. Well done!
